The Shino-Yaki cup is produced by our very own Potters Stephen Roberts and Rob Natoil.

The name Shino-Yaki is a Japanese term for a particular style born in the 16th century during the Golden Age of Japanese pottery. Shino ware was widely sought after for its humble aesthetic and suited the wabi-sabi style of the Zen Buddhist tea masters.

Shino glazes can be a combination of thick snow-white to red scorch marks and each Shino Yaki Travel Cup varies in these characteristics - not one is ever the same. Each cup honouring and resembling the ancient techniques of pottery.

Stevie first used Shino glaze when working for Ian Reid at Flaxton Gardens Pottery and continued to learn about Shino Yaki with a friend and mentor Rowley Drysdale. He had the privilege of seeing some of the original Shino pottery in Japan.

This beautiful, ceramic keep cup takes us back to a time in history before plastic, where art was shaped from the Earth. Thanks, Stevie

Cream 100% silicone lid

All cups are handmade and one of a kind. You will receive a cup similar to the cups pictured but there are no two the same. Variations in size, colour and markings is what makes them unique!

Pottery For The Planet Cups are made of ceramic and must be handled with care. Ceramic will crack if knocked or dropped.

Specifications are approximate because although we do our best to keep things uniform being handmade you can expect variations in size, weight, shape, texture, pattern and volume. Pottery For The Planet Cups are designed to fit into most cup holders in cars and prams.

What size should I choose for my coffee order?

A rough guide: the 4oz Piccolo suits an espresso or piccolo, the 6oz works for a small flat white or strong coffee, the 8oz covers most standard cafe orders and is the most popular size, and the 12oz suits larger drinks, teas, or anyone who likes more in their cup. If you are unsure, the 8oz is the safe default. The 16oz Iced Coffee Cup is a separate product designed specifically for cold drinks.

Will my cup look exactly like the photo?

No two cups are identical. Each one is handmade and glazed individually, so the glaze colour, depth, and markings on your cup will be similar to the photo but will have its own natural variation. That variation is what makes every piece one of a kind and worth keeping. Specifications are also approximate for the same reason.

Does the cup come with a lid?

Yes, every Travel Cup comes with a 100% silicone lid included. Lids come in cream, black or white depending on the glaze. If you want a lid in a different colour, or a spare, replacement lids are available separately in the Accessories collection in three sizes - Small (4oz), Regular (6oz/8oz/12oz), and Large (16oz).

Will it fit in my car or pram cup holder?

Yes, Travel Cups are designed to fit most standard car and pram cup holders. Because every cup is handmade, there is slight variation in width between pieces, so specifications are approximate. If your cup holder is on the narrower side, the 4oz and 6oz sizes are the most likely to fit comfortably.

How do I care for my cup?
