Bowl On Pottery Wheel Being Carved

OUR MAKERS

Every piece of Pottery For The Planet is made by a real person. Humans making cool stuff. Here is who they are.

AUSTRALIA

Our Noosa studio is where most of the range is thrown, glazed, and finished. These are the people who make it happen.

Co-founder and Head Potter

Renton

Renton is a second-generation potter who grew up in his family's studio, Nob Creek Pottery, which became one of Australia's most respected ceramic studios and welcomed visiting potters from around the world. Those years shaped everything about how he works today: a deep respect for the craft, a commitment to functional design, and a belief that beautiful objects should be used every day, not put on a shelf.

As co-founder of Pottery For The Planet, Renton still spends as much time at the wheel as he can. Shaping a form from raw clay and watching it come out of the kiln as a finished piece remains his favourite part of the job.

Potter

Chris

Chris comes to ceramics from a background that spans film, live theatre, and videography, which gives her an instinct for form and storytelling that shows up in her work. After moving into construction she found pottery to be the natural intersection of creativity and craft. She lives off-grid and is committed to forest regeneration and sustainable farming. Her skills extend well beyond the wheel: painting, sculpting, woodwork, and music are all part of how she approaches making things. She is a natural fit for a studio that takes craft seriously and cares about where it happens.

VIETNAM

Some pieces in the Pottery For The Planet range are made in Vietnam, through a partnership that goes back further than the brand itself.

The Toan Family

The relationship between Pottery For The Planet and the Toan family was first established by Renton's parents, long before Pottery For The Planet existed. When Renton began building the brand, continuing that partnership was an easy decision. The Toan family runs a small, family-owned studio in Vietnam, and Renton travels there regularly to develop new designs and glazes alongside the team.

Their expertise in traditional forming techniques has made it possible to expand the Pottery For The Planet range with pieces that could not practically be produced at scale in the Noosa studio. Every piece made in Vietnam is still handmade and one of a kind.

More than a decade on, the collaboration continues and is stronger for it.

We’re grateful to work with and be inspired by these masters of the craft!
